Man suspected of boating drunk in Auke Bay

JUNEAU (AP) A Juneau boater found out it's wise to choose words carefully when speaking to the Coast Guard.

The Coast Guard vessel was patrolling Auke Bay on Friday when a boater in a private vessel taunted guardsmen, according to the agency. The crew proceeded to board the man's boat.

Once aboard, the operator was belligerent to the boarding team, the Coast Guard said. The operator consented to field sobriety tests, which he failed, but refused a Breathalyzer test.

The boarding team terminated the man's voyage and escorted him to the dock in Auke Bay. The Juneau Police Department met the boarding team.

Police officers administered their own field sobriety tests, which the man passed. The Coast Guard said the second tests were administered 90 minutes after their tests.

The Coast Guard cited the man for boating while intoxicated. His name was not released.

Juneau Police did not cite the man.
