Weather didn't dampen spirit of annual track-field meet

The annual Hershey Track and Field Meet sponsored by North Peninsula Recreation Service Area was once again a huge success.

On May 9, approximately 250 participants from local areas came to compete in both running and field events at the Nikiski Middle-Senior High School. The weather didn't damper the spirits of our volunteers or participants. We had a great time!

Volunteers are the backbone of our program, and the success of the meet relies heavily on volunteer support. Thank you to all these people who generously contributed their time: Jay Griffel, Bob Pepper, Beth Jones, Nora Ribbens, Shanette Wik, Mary Kennedy, Karen Calder-wood, Kristin Peek, Chris Herrin, Andie Alkire, Donna Rooper, Aimee Harrison, Beth Kellie, Deborah Jameson, Kellie Hitchcock, Dennis Leckwee, Amy O'Dell, Tina Knutson, Linda Spotts and Camille Taylor.

A special thank you to Richard Kelso, for letting me run field events during his PE classes, and thanks to all of the teachers and administrators who worked with and encouraged their students. We appreciate your support.

Rachel Parra, Recreation supervisor, North Peninsula Recreation Service Area
