Reading rewards

Posted: Wednesday, May 19, 2004

Students from North Star Elementary School enjoy ice cream Thursday at the Blue Grouse after riding in "cool" cars as a reward associated with the school's reading program. Throughout the program, students were read a medieval themed script called "As the Castle Turns," written by fourth-graders Kayleen Hansen. They also kept track of their reading times and reading test scores. Three students from each class the child who read the most minutes, the one with the most improved test score and a randomly-selected student got to ride in "cool" cars, including an emergency vehicle and a Corvette, for a cold treat last week.
