Soldotna Elementary

Posted: Wednesday, May 19, 2004

Thanks to Master Sgt. William Hall and the personnel from the Army National Guard who visited Soldotna Elementary on Monday with a Black Hawk helicopter. Students were able to speak with the National Guard people and tour the helicopter as they heard a message about avoiding drugs.

Title I teacher Katrina Cannava presented a read aloud workshop Thursday to assist parents of infants and children in motivating their children to read. All participants got a book by noted children's author Mem Fox.

Congratulations to all students who completed their D.A.R.E. studies with the help of their teachers and former Soldotna Police officer Greg Landess. At a special assembly, Jenna Jensen, Cassi Hollingsworth, Emily Edwards and Hannah Morgan received special recognition for their winning essays on D.A.R.E.

Ms. Courtright's fourth-graders took the Kenai Fjord cruise last week as part of their study of Alaska's geographical systems and animal classifications.

Mrs. Meyer's sixth-graders took part in activities at the Challenger Learning Center of Alaska as part of their studies on space technology.
