No raining on Birch Ridge's parade

Its somewhat damp out there on the fairways, but that still wont stop our own Birch Ridge Seniors from starting the first of their weekly Monday 9 a.m. tee times. First day out saw winner Jo Brisco with a score of 30; Don McGhee was closest-to on hole six; Jerry Norris had the same honors on hole eight.

A three-way tie for first place went to Jo Brisco, John Davis, and Darrell Jelsma on the second Monday. Closest-to-pin honors on holes six and eight go to Ray Hamby and Jerry Norris, respectively. Mr. Hamby came through with longest putt.

By the third Monday, 18 seniors made their way to the greens. First placer with a low net score was Chiya Bazan; coming in second was George McDowell. Closest-to was Don McGhee for hole six, Ray Hamby for hole eight, and longest putt awards to Ms. Bazan on hole nine.

Mens Wednesday night commenced May 4. Winning team consisted of players Dan Murphy, Jay Kriner, Steve Dexheimer, and Guy Hayes. Closest-to on hole six kudos go to Dick Cockroft; on hole eight, Daryl Palmer. Long drive congrats to Steve Dexheimer.

The second Wednesday found 26 players doing their best. Dave Keating, Phil Christensen, Darrell Jelsma, and Paul Zimmerman made up the winning team. Second place team members were Rob Smithwick, Kevin Downs, Guy Hayes, and Jay Kriner. Closest-to on hole six was Dave Keating; hole eight found Steve Dexheimer in that positition. Kevin Downs beat out all others for long drive, while Mike Hollingsworth scored a pure birdie on hole one.

Tuesday Morning Ladies had 10 players for their first day out for the season. Jan Stenga won for closest-to on hole eight, as did her good play pal Myrna Cowan on hole six. Longest drive went to Jane Tongen. Dee Richards won handshakes all around for scoring the least number of putts for nine holes.

Dont forget this Friday is the Hospice Auction and Putting Contest, from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday is our very own 32nd Anniversary Par 3 Tournament for season ticket holders of Birch Ridge Golf Course. Its slated for a scramble format with A, B, C and D players per team. Sign up no later than Friday at the pro shop, 262-5270.
