Soldotna Safety Day a huge success

Posted: Tuesday, May 19, 2009

Soldotna Creek Park was the place to be last Saturday. By proclamation of Soldotna city Mayor, the third Saturday in May is Soldotna Safety Day. We set aside this day to recognize safety issues and show appreciation for those who keep us safe. This year HEA added extra excitement to our fun day by donating their time for bucket rides and power line demonstrations. The MS Walkers were out in full force as were the 5K runners. Everyone enjoyed the annual bike auction presented by the Soldotna Police Department with Sgt. Tony Garcia as auctioneer. The Boy Scouts helped with traffic control and parking, making walkers, runners, attendees and car seat checkers a little safer. CES volunteered their time to teach us about fire hazards. The military police from Fort Richardson drove down just for this event and our local VFW honored us by presenting the colors. It was a fun day to drink Coca-Cola and eat free hot dogs!

Thank you Odom corp., ConacoPhillips, and all you volunteers. This is Soldotna, caring to make our town a little safer--in a fun way.
