KENNY LAKE (AP) -- A second-grade student at Sapa Christian Center won a national contest for good handwriting.
David Helkenn is the National Grade Two Champion in Manuscript Writing in the 2001 Zaner-Bloser National Handwriting Contest. He is one of only seven students to win, and competed against thousands of other second-graders in 45 state and the Virgin Islands.
Helkin will receive a plaque, an engraved pen and a $500 U.S. savings bond.
The competition was sponsored by Zaner-Bloser Inc., of Columbus, Ohio, the nation's leading publisher of handwriting texts. A total of 104,250 students in six grades participated in this year's contest.
