ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A Wasilla man was shot and killed Saturday night in the parking lot of Gorilla Fireworks on the Parks Highway west of Wasilla.

Michael Peterson, 22, died at the scene after Paul McGee, 47, Houston, shot Peterson once in the chest with a .44-caliber revolver.

No charges were filed pending a review by state prosecutors, according to a troopers report.

Troopers said McGee's son, James, 18, told his father by phone that he had been assaulted at his home by Peterson.

According to troopers, Paul McGee left his home and drove south at the same time that Peterson drove north. They spotted each other and turned into the parking lot.

Paul McGee confronted Peterson and told troopers that Peterson reached under his shirt. McGee said he believed Peterson was pulling out a weapon.

McGee pulled his gun and fired. Troopers said a short club, as is used to club halibut, fell from Peterson's hand after he was shot.
