What a super Saturday for Soldotna Safety Day! It was perfect weather for car seat check ups from The Safe Kids Coalition, an excellent showing for the 4-H tree sales and the MS Walk even had some runners this year! Cook Inlet Academy 's band performed lively tunes ranging from soft jazz and drum solos to bass guitar accompaniments. Many thanks to the sound system donated by the City of Soldotna; the performers played on the flat bed stage supplied by Lynden Transport. Bob Nath of Diakonos Services provided the sound system expertise while HEA gave demonstrations as to why to stay more than 10 feet from a power line!
A special thanks to the VFW for posting the flag and leading us in the pledge of allegiance. Soldotna remembers our brave men and woman serve our country protecting our freedoms, we owe them a debt of gratitude just as we owe those who keep us safe here. We thank our firemen, local police department, State Troopers, Forestry service, all of our emergency response people who put their lives on the line for us with every call they respond to.
We thank the support people who try to prevent crimes, such as Crime Stoppers. We thank those organizations which remind us to be safe, whether it is the local Soldotna Library with boating and water safety, the Kenai Kennel club with dog training for dog and master safety, or encouraging people not to smoke as does the Peninsula Smoke Free Partnership. There are the organizations which help when injuries have occurred, the Traumatic Brain injury organization, Ready care, the Lee Shore Center, Red Cross, PCHS, the Medicenter. All are people helping people.
A special thanks to all the volunteers who showed up, whether to cook and eat hot dogs on the barbecue provided by ConocoPhillips, or those who served the Coke products provided by Coca Cola of Alaska. The Karate demonstrations provided by Peninsula Martial Arts are always enjoyable to watch as well as a reminder to chose exercise and discipline as a healthy life style. The bike auction provided funds for the local DARE program.
Special thanks goes to Borough Mayor Dave Carey, to Soldotna Mayor Peter Micciche and his wife Erin, for their support of Soldotna Safety Day, thank you all for participating -- see you next year!
