Longtime Soldotna resident, Mr. James R. Scritchfield, 80, died Sunday, May 15, 2011, at Central Peninsula Hospital, in Soldotna.
Per James' request, no services will be held.
Mr. Scritchfield was born April 24, 1931, in Talmage, Calif. He graduated from High School and shortly after that he joined the U.S. Coast Guard reserves and The U.S. Army where he was stationed at Ft. Richardson in the early 1950's. In 1954 he married Janette in Talmage. In 1967 he and his wife moved from Northern California to Soldotna, where they have lived even since. He worked for the California Division of Forestry in Jackson, Calif., and most recently retired from the Department of Transportation in Soldotna in 1990. James loved fishing, hunting, snow machining, traveling, making fishing fly's and camping.
The family wrote, "He loved his family and was a very good husband and father. We had great fun together as a family. His granddaughter, Janice Marie was the apple of his eye."
He was preceded in death by his father, James Calvin Scritchfield and his mother, Bertha A. Scritchfield.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Janette Scritchfield of Soldotna; sons, James Scritchfield and his wife, Melanie; and Richard Scritchfield and his wife, Brenda, all of Soldotna; granddaughter, Janice M. Scritchfield, of Soldotna; sister, Roberta C. King, of Ukiah, Calif.; step grandchildren, Jennifer and Beth Helms, of Soldotna; and Jessica Works of Soldotna.
