JUNEAU (AP) -- A Juneau man died Sunday after he fell from a ladder while painting.
Juan MacFarlane, 29, was painting a house Sunday morning while the neighbor family was out of town.
''He was doing a good deed for a neighbor,'' said his wife, Christine MacFarlane. He was just finishing the trim when the ladder shifted sideways and he fell headfirst onto concrete, his wife said.
He was unresponsive when she got to him. According to his wife, MacFarlane was put on a respirator at the Bartlett Regional Hospital, but never regained consciousness.
MacFarlane, just graduated from the University of Alaska Southeast, earning a bachelor of liberal arts degree in communications with an emphasis in creative writing. He planned to be a teacher.
MacFarlane has two daughters, 3 and 5. Christine MacFarlane worked while her husband went to school and took care of the children.
Emily Wall, a visiting assistant professor of English, said MacFarlane was one of her most passionate students are enjoyed working with children.
''He wrote wonderful poetry and got everybody else so excited. We're going to miss him.''
