Reva Jean Oines died at Fairbanks Denali Center on Monday, May 8, 2006. She was 72.

Services will be held on Monday, May 22 at the Fairbanks Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at Birch Hill, followed by a celebration of life at the North Pole Moose Family Center 306 in North Pole at 5 p.m.

Mrs. Oines was born Jan. 17, 1934, to Bernard Cyril and Anna Marie Clark of Madison, S.D.

She attended Brookings High School, where she met Donald Oines. There were married April 27, 1951 and drove from Montana to Anchorage, arriving in September 1951, after Mr. Oines was stationed in Alaska with the Army.

They had four children and homesteaded from 1963-65 on McHugh Peak, overlooking Turnagan Arm and Hope.

The family moved to Kenai in 1968 when Mr. Oines was transferred with Western Airlines. During 1972-73, the couple organized and oversaw the first organized ice hockey for the youth of Kenai, North Kenai and Soldotna. Their sons were active hockey players.

The family moved to Fairbanks in 1974. She and Mr. Oines divorced in 1982 and she returned to Sioux Falls, S.D. in 1990. Her children brought her back to Alaska in May of 2005.

Mrs. Oines was a member of two bridge clubs, the Daughters of the American Revolution Alaska Chapter 7-001-AK, North Pole Women of the Moose Chapter 1977 and Red Hatters’ Angels of the Aurora chapter.

“Reva deeply loved her family and friends. She thoroughly enjoyed playing bridge, reading, square dancing, gardening, knitting, sewing and cooking. She made hundreds of beautiful things and loved to give them as gifts to others. Reva was a Sunday school teacher for years, and worked in various professional fields in Anchorage, Kenai and Fairbanks until her health prevented her to. Her home was always open to others. She was a kind and generous person and will be missed by many,” her family wrote.

Mrs. Oines was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Donald Clark; and nephew, Mark DePew.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, David and Deena Oines of Wasilla, Dan Oines of Fairbanks, and Dale and Kelly Oines of North Pole; daughter and son-in-law, Donna and Terry Reese of North Pole; grandchildren and their spouses, Kerensa and Charles Allen of Washington, Melody and Richard McManus of Wasilla, Tamera of Wasilla, Stacey and Mark Ciosek of Bristol, Conn., Heather and Timothy Hanson of North Pole, Aaron Reese, Sharita Mitchell and Alan Oines of North Pole; great-grandchildren; Orion Allen of Washington, Daimin Rogers, Tara Hobson-Reese and Hannah Hanson, all of North Pole, and Shelby Auman of Indiana; sisters and their spouses, Rita Clark of Mankato, Minn., and Elise and John Ulwelling of Flandreau, S.D.; brother and his wife, Bruce and Jo Ann Clark of Flandreau, S.D.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Arrangements were made by the Fairbanks Funeral Home.
