Spring came early and so did the golfing season. Bird Homestead Golf Course, 11.8 miles out Funny River Road, is now open and looking good. We opened about two weeks early this year thanks to an early spring and light winter. The course is shaping up nicely and the greens are coming along.
We've patched an abundance of moose tracks on the fairways and have started watering the greens already. The water range is open for those who need to warm up before they really get started.
Bird Homestead Golf Course had its first event on May 15 with 24 entries in the Mark Hordemann Birthday Tournament. This is an annual event that started the year after we opened and has been a great success each year. They played nine holes and had a great time.
The first-place team consisted of Pat Bird, Mark Hordemann, Justin Bird and Terry Haase. They won by a tiebreaking chip-off against Jeff Gillman, Steve Tachick, Scott Sundberg and Jessica Sundberg. Pat Bird showed off her golfing skills leading her team to victory. Winter golf has its advantages doesn't it Pat?
Amanda Bird took the lady's long drive and Roy Bird had the men's long drive.
We are going to kick off women's night on Monday at 6 p.m. and hope to see all you lady golfers on the course. Our men's night started on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. We should have some very interesting stories to tell next week.
For those seniors who are looking for some morning fun, come join our Seniors Day. It started Wednesday at 10 a.m.
Let's not forget about Thrifty Thursday. Bring a friend and one of you will golf for free. You decide which one.
We have a couple new programs this year for those who are just visiting and for those who work shifts out of town. Come by and check it out.
You will find smiling faces from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. every day of the week at Bird Homestead Golf Course. You can always call ahead for a tee time or just come on out.
