Dorothea Mae (Thorson) Kimbrel died Tuesday, May 2, 2000, in Spokane, Wash. She was 83.
She was born to Ethel Sparks and Fred Dolby Oct. 17, 1916, in Great Falls, Mont. She graduated from Great Falls High School in 1936. She later served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
After the war, she moved to Alaska in 1951, where she worked as a waitress and married Alvin E. Kimbrel in 1954. In 1959, they homesteaded in Kenai, where she resided until 1996, when she moved to Anchorage to be closer to her family and for medical reasons. In 1999, she moved to Spokane with her son and grandson.
"She will be missed greatly by her friends and family," her family said.
Mrs. Kimbrel was preceded in death by her husband, Ed, who died in 1990, and her sister, Charlotte Bowman.
She is survived by her sisters, Margerette Johnston of Castle Rock, Wash., and Opal Matye of Great Falls; brother, Clifford Thorson of Anaheim, Calif.; son, Ed Kimbrel Jr. and grandson, Kyle Kimbrel, both of Spokane; and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements were made by Riplinger Funeral Home in Spokane.
