ANCHORAGE (AP) -- The federal Economic Development Administration is issuing a $1 million grant to the local Native association in the village of Stebbins.

The money is intended to help the village diversify its economy.

Stebbins, which is located on Norton Sound, has been hit hard by poor salmon runs in recent years.

Officials with the U.S. Commerce Department said the money will help build a multipurpose community building to house new business ventures and job-training classrooms, he said.
