Thanks to those strawberry loving seniors in Soldotna, some $2,200 was raised to help send Central Peninsula Special Olympic athletes to the Alaska Summer Games in Anchorage.

According to Jan Fena, of the Soldotna Senior Center, the 5th Annual Strawberry Social drew more than 200 people to the Center last weekend.

"I was really too busy dipping berries to count for sure, but it was our best ever," said Fena.

The smorgasbord of chocolate dipped strawberries, shortcake, sundaes, shakes, pancakes, and waffles, consumed more than 5 flats of berries, not to mention the cream and special toppings.

In addition to the all day brunch, the seniors added to the fundraising event with a bake sale and dollar auction. The proceeds will also assist the Senior Center nutrition program.
