Skyview's U.S. history students honor veterans at annual dinner

Posted: Thursday, May 22, 2003

On May 9, more than 220 U.S. military veterans and their family members were fed a free spaghetti dinner and entertained at the Fourth Annual Veterans Appreciation Dinner at the Soldotna Sports Center hosted by the U.S. history students of Skyview High School. It was a huge success and again demonstrated the gratitude of our community toward past and present members of the U.S. armed forces.

This event would not have happened without the assistance of the following people and employees: Vicki Leach and Wanda VanBuskirk as cooks, Echo Lake Lockers for ground beef, Safeway for soft drinks and bread, Fred Meyer for salads and Save U More for seasonings and the sports center crew.

Food, decorations and advertisement were provided by the Soldotna Elks Lodge. The city of Soldotna Mini-Grant Program provided the funds for renting the sports center.

More than 100 regular U.S. history students and AP history students worked on and at this event, and we thank all American veterans for their service.
