A Soldotna man was seriously injured Tuesday when the motorcycle he was driving crashed head-on into a car on the Sterling Highway in Cooper Landing.

James Vinson Jr., 41, was listed in fair condition in Providence Alaska Medical Center in Anchorage where he was taken by helicopter after the 12:30 p.m. accident.

Vinson was riding eastbound on the highway when he went wide around a curve into the path of an oncoming 1991 Ford Tempo driven by Jack Rowe of Anchorage, according to an Alaska State Troopers report.

Vinson reportedly was thrown from the motorcycle onto the roadway, suffering serious injuries. He was not wearing a helmet, troopers said.

Troopers and Cooper Landing ambulance and the fire department responded. Vinson was flown by Life Guard helicopter to Anchorage.
