Community support made program a success

Posted: Monday, May 22, 2006

The Board of Directors of the Soldotna After the Bell Program would like to thank the community for your support during the past three years. Our program, which provided after-school tutoring and homework help and extended learning opportunities, has been in place for seven years (closed) its doors on May 19, 2006.

The first four years were funded by a 21st Century Grant from the U.S. Department of Education. The next two years we received small grants through the U.S. DOE with help from Senator Stevens. In addition, the last three years we have relied on major donations, four dinner auctions, three raffles and user fees to keep the program operating.

Major sponsors have included Agrium-Kenai Nitrogen Operations, the City of Soldotna, ConocoPhillips Alaska Inc., Fred Meyer, Glacier Pontiac Buick GMAC, Homer Electric Association, Hutchings Chevrolet-Cadillac, the Kenai Peninsula Realtors Association, Peninsula Sportsman’s Association, Peninsula Winter Games, Soldotna Chamber of Commerce, Soldotna Lions, Soldotna VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Tesoro Alaska Co., Wells Fargo Bank Alaska.

In addition, many small businesses contributed to our fundraising efforts. We are grateful for the active support of our parents and the outstanding quality and commitment of the ATB staff — both have been invaluable to our success.

In closing, we would like to give a “standing ovation” to our community and their active support of our youth through the After the Bell Program.

Ginger Steffy, president
