Large haul of support made event a keeper

Wednesday, May 17th was another great day in Soldotna!

Approximately 400 people gathered at Soldotna Creek Park for a great celebration of Les Anderson Day. This was the second annual Les Anderson Day and the 21st anniversary of the World Record Catch by the infamous Soldotna resident. Les was not only the fisherman who was graced with this large king, but an asset to Soldotna in so many other ways. This year, nominations were accepted to a person who embodied all those great attributes. The five nominees were: Steve Bonebrake, Dr. Nels Anderson, Carroll Eby, Ron Rainey and Dave Lowery. The winner of the 2006 Les Anderson Award was Carroll Eby. All men were very deserving and should be very proud to have been nominated.

The day was cloudy but the spirits were not. Les Anderson Day was a great free community barbecue of salmon, burgers, cobs of corn and so much more. Along with the great food was the entertainment by Dave Unruh. Les’s friends and family were present as well as a community ready to get the fishing season started.

All of the following community minded businesses and individuals are the reason such an event is possible. A sincere thank you to all who donated product, services as well as their valuable time to make Les Anderson Day happen for the community.
