Rodeo postponed

The rodeo scheduled for Saturday and Sunday by the Soldotna Equestrian Association has been postponed. A new date will be announced in the near future. Tickets purchased for this weekend will be honored for the new date, as well as the Progress Days Rodeo in July. For more information, call Mike at 262-7709 or Rhonda at 262-7006.

Coast Guard to conduct safety checks

The Coast Guard Marine Safety Detachment and the Coast Guard Auxiliary will conduct courtesy preseason vessel checks from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Fred Meyer parking lot in Soldotna. For more information, call the Coast Guard at 283-3292.

Lions to hold gun show, raffle

The Soldotna Lions Club will hold its 14th annual all-Alaska gun show this weekend. The show opens at 10 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Soldotna Sports Center. In conjunction with the show, there will be a raffle for a Savage model 11FCXP3 300 Winchester Magnum rifle and a Remington model 870 Super Mag 12-gauge shotgun. The price of a raffle ticket is $3. Tsalteshi Trails Triathlon set for Monday

The Tsalteshi Trails Triathlon will be Monday, Memorial Day, at Skyview High School. Races for kids 12 and under start at 9 a.m., with the open races at 11 am. Applications can be downloaded from www.tsalteshi.org or may be filled out on race day. Races will be for individuals or relays in all age groups. Activities will include live entertainment by JD Uponen, Peel with Neil Darling, and other guests. A barbecue lunch will be available. Umpires needed

Soccer club seeking players

The Kenai Peninsula Soccer Club is looking for players to fill out its U-13 girls competition team roster. Players born from Aug. 1, 1990, through July 31, 1991, are eligible for the team.

WRCC Clothes Closet open to public

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center Clothes Closet is open to the community from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays. The Clothes Closet offers clothing and miscellaneous items at no charge. Due to limited staff, contributed items are accepted only on Thursdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Food Bank to close for Memorial Day

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank will be closed Monday to observe Memorial Day. It will reopen Tuesday. For more information, call Cindy at 262-3111.

KDLL board to meet Tuesday

KDLL public radio board of directors will meet at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Economic Development Building, 3 miles north of Kenai. It is open to the public.

Relay for Life raises money for cancer society

The annual American Cancer Society's Relay for Life begins at 6 p.m. May 30 and ends at 6 p.m. May 31 at the Skyview High School track. Those wishing to put together a team or volunteer to help with the fund-raiser can call Corbi Aaronson at 262-7711. The public is invited to come out and cheer on area cancer survivors, who will start the event by making the first lap. A luminary memorial service will be held at 11 p.m. May 30.

Brain Injury Support Group awareness walk

The Kenai Peninsula Brain Injury Support Group will have its seventh annual walk for awareness at 11 a.m. May 31. The route begins at the Kenai Central High School and continues through downtown Kenai to the green park strip on Main Street Loop by the softball fields. There will be a barbecue upon completion.

Kenai beautification project needs volunteers

Volunteers are needed for a half day to plant the Kenai flower beds. The planting will begin at 10 a.m. May 31 at the Kenai Fire Department. The firefighters association will hold a barbecue at 2 p.m. for all volunteers.

The Kenai Recreation Center flower beds will be available for parents with children wishing to plant. For more information, call Bob Frates at 283-3855.

Early registration for 5K run-walk encouraged

The Kenai Watershed Forum is planning a 5-kilometer run-walk to be held in conjunction with the 2003 Kenai River Festival. Registration will be at 9 a.m. with the race slated to begin at 10 a.m. June 14. The start-finish line will be at the city of Kenai Green Strip Park near the ball fields.

The preregistration fee is $5 for adults; no fee will be charged for children under 18. Registration fees on race day will be $10 for adults and $5 for children under 18. Registration forms can be found at www.kenaiwatershed.org or call Josselyn Burke at 260-5449.
