Soldotna resident Minnie Graham Keating died Friday, May 19, 2006, at Central Peninsula General Hospital in Soldotna, after being hospitalized for three weeks. She was 89.

A celebration of Mrs. Keating’s life will be held at the Soldotna Senior Citizens Center at a later date.

Mrs. Keating was born Dec. 29, 1916, in Glasgow, Scotland, and immigrated to the United States when she was 8 years old, settling with her parents and siblings in Juneau, where she graduated from high school in 1935. She moved to Seward in 1940, to Anchorage in 1966 and settled in Soldotna in 1989 to be near her sons and their families. Mrs. Keating worked for the Seward Bank, Seward General Hospital, Military Transport Service, the Corps of Engineers and HUD, from which she retired in 1985.

After her retirement, Mrs. Keating enjoyed many trips, including those to Hawaii, Las Vegas, Scotland, Tahiti and Australia. She was a member of the Pioneers of Alaska, Igloo No. 9 in Seward.

“Minnie loved meeting new people wherever she went. She loved her daily venture to the Soldotna senior center, where she played pinochle with her friends. She loved going out to lunch and for rides with her good friend, Jeanne Zimmerman,” her family said.

Mrs. Keating is survived by her sons, Dennis and his wife, Rose Ann, of Soldotna, and John and his wife, Margo, of Sterling; and grandchildren, Daniel of Soldotna, Rebecca of Anchorage, Ian and his wife, Destiny, of Anchorage, Sean and his wife, Destiny, of Anchorage and Marjie Wegg and her husband, Richard, of Anchorage.
