The Peninsula Oilers recently announced that Jeff Popick, Ryan Gebhart, Nate Theunissen, Stephen Piscotty and Tyler Grimes are joining the team.
Popick is an outfielder from Mesa State College. He is a 6-foot-4, 190-pound sophomore. This year, he is hitting .413 with 10 home runs, 36 runs and 44 RBIs in 40 games.
Gebhart should be familiar to Alaska Baseball League fans because he played with Athletes in Action last summer. He hit .288 with two doubles, a triple, a home run and was 12-of-14 on stolen bases. Gebhart is an outfielder at the University of Missouri, where he hit .370 this season.
Theunissen is a 6-2, 205-pound first baseman from Central Michigan University. He played in all 45 games for the Chippewas this year, hitting .404 with 37 runs, 18 doubles and 44 RBIs.
Piscotty is a freshman at Stanford University and is 6-3, 195 pounds. He can pitch, play infield or play outfield. This year, he hit .307 with 36 runs, 13 doubles and 28 RBIs for Stanford. He was drafted in the 45th round out of high school by the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Grimes is a shortstop at Wichita State University. Grimes was ready to play for the Oilers last season but broke his hand in the conference championship. This year, he is hitting .260 with 40 runs, 10 doubles and 28 RBIs.
