Red flag Hidden Lake (again)

Posted: Monday, May 23, 2011

Since 1990 I have personally requested more conservative regulations on Hidden Lake trout. By 1995 I wrote several letters and articles about the existing and impending problems. I discussed my reasons and predicted what was imminent many times publicly and directly to ADFG.

The first time I fished Hidden Lake was in 1968. Since that time as a serious hard core lake trout angler I have put in nearly a half century of experience and thousands of hours on that lake. Someone finally listened a year or two ago and a Hidden Lake trout study is now being conducted. What will ever come of the study is highly questionable.

*Another immediate red flag should wave of the Hidden Lake Campground and immediate emergency lake trout "conservative" regulations should be put in order as follows: 1. No retention of lake trout; 2. Single barbless hook only; 3. No bait dead or alive; 4. Season closure during the spawning months; 5. No professional guiding.

If you think this is too conservative then go ahead, completely support the liberal status quo and soon you will be able to put Hidden Lake trout on the endangered species list! Like I predicted 30 years ago and more recently, request drastic conservative measures now or your kids and grandkids will only see a lake trout in pictures.
