ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Alaska Airlines said it transported 285,095 pounds of Copper River salmon last weekend following the season's first 12-hour opening.

That was 72 percent more fish than it carried a year earlier during the same period, said Keola Pang-Ching, director of cargo marketing.

Alaska Air added nine Boeing 737 all-cargo flights to its two regularly scheduled daily departures from Cordova over the weekend, Pang-Ching said.
