CPGH to hold board meeting

The Central Peninsula General Hospital Inc. board of directors will meet at 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the Borealis Conference room at the hospital. The public is invited to attend. For a copy of the agenda visit www.cpgh.org.

Summer clubhouse extends deadline

The Kenai Boys and Girls Club has extended its registration deadline for session one of the Summer Clubhouse to Friday. There will be a $10 late fee implemented after this date. The clubhouse is open to all youth ages 6 (completed first grade) to 13. Hours are 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and breakfast, lunch and a snack are provided. Cost is $125 per month, per session, plus a $20 membership fee. Scholarships are available.

Baseball competition slated

The North Peninsula Recreation Service Area will hold its annual co-ed Pepsi Pitch-Hit-Run competition June 2 at the Nikiski pool fields. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m. Children ages 7 to 14 are eligible to participate. The competition allows children to showcase their pitching, hitting and running abilities. Entry forms are available at the Nikiski pool. There is no fee. For more information, call 776-8800.

Ranger district plans trail celebrations

The Seward Ranger District has planned several events to coincide with National Trails Day on June 5.

June 2 Kids Day Fun from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Primrose Campground at Mile 18 of the Seward Highway. Nature crafts and a fun un-nature hike are some of the planned activities. Participants are asked to bring a sandwich and water, The SRD will provided supplies and guidance.

June 5 Work Project on Resurrection Pass. The public is invited to join members of the Arctic Bicycle Club's Touring Division, Peninsula Bike Club and other volunteers to help maintain drainage structures on the first three miles of the Resurrection Trail. Participants will meet at 10 a.m. at the trail head and are asked to bring work gloves, eye protection, work boots and a sack lunch. The SRD will provided supervision, tools, hardhats, sports drinks and snacks. Campsites will be provided at the Russian River Campground on June 4 and 5 for out-of-town participants.

Trails Day at Kachemak Bay slated

The Alaska State Parks and the Friends of Kachemak Bay State Park will hold its eighth annual Trails Day at Kachemak Bay State Park on June 12. Participants will be assigned to work on various projects. Clearing, cleaning and repair of trails and campsites and other facilities are planned. Interested community members will meet at 7 a.m. at the Mariner's Memorial on the Homer Spit and return between 5 and 6 p.m.

Cost is $15 for the round trip water taxi fare. Most of the fee is donated back to the Friends of Kachemak State Park to support the volunteers efforts in the park. Preregistration and taxi fee payment is required before June 12 so adequate transportation can be arranged. For more information, call Ranger Roger MacCampbell at (907) 235-7024.

Red Cross golf tourney set

The American Red Cross will hold it 13th annual golf classic, barbecue and auction fund-raiser on July 3 at the Birch Ridge Golf Course in Soldotna. Sponsors, volunteers and players are being sought for the event. For more information, to volunteer or register, call 262-4541.
