Reader: School board meetings would make good reality series

For those reality TV junkies out there, turn off your television sets and attend a school board meeting or two. You will be amazed at the actions of people that will have you amused, astonished and bewildered.

The opening credits start out with a hope of good things to come like a well-qualified team of craftsmen ready to “Sell this House” with Candice Olsen of “Divine Design” ready to give you the home of your dreams.

Sadly dysfunction appears after the first commercial break when Ozzy and the rest of the Osborns show up along with “Hogan Knows Best” to tell you that you are the public and “Donna Knows Best” and that’s that.

Many board members could have their own series in this genre. Watch as one comes alive from what appears to be a coma to say something out of left field or listen to another as he tells you as he does every meeting that he works at Prudhoe Bay. Some get emotional and with great timing can throw a tear your way. It’s almost must see TV, but it’s not, it’s your school board in action.

The viewer does get a glimpse of hope from the reps from Homer, Seldovia and Kasilof from time to time, as they appear to be working for the kids and the public, so all is not lost. But I ask everyone to get out and see this for themselves before the series is canceled due to low ratings.
