Equine dentist to offer seminar

Lisa Barnes, a certified equine dentist, will host a free dental seminar at the Soldotna Rodeo Grounds at 6 p.m. today.

Candlelight dinner to benefit garden

The Sterling Senior Center will host a candlelight spaghetti dinner today from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at the center to benefit the memorial garden. The cost is $6 per person. There will be door prizes, music, entertainment and a split the pot.

Missions garage sale planned in Kasilof

The Kasilof Community Church will host its third annual missions garage sale Saturday and Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. All proceeds go to the mission effort in Russia.

Lions Gun Show coming up

The 12th annual Soldotna Lions Gun Show will be held at the Soldotna Sports Center on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Any dealers interested in participating should call Paul Zimmerman at 262-7223.

Dinner, auction to benefit child

On Sunday from 4 to 9:30 p.m. at the Kenai Senior Citizens Center there will be a seafood dinner and auction benefit for Gavin Marsh. All proceeds will go toward purchasing a specialized van needed to transport Gavin and his wheelchair due to progressing muscular dystrophy. Admission is $10 for adults, $5 for children and $30 for a family.

Class held to discuss weeds

Janice Chumley, an intergrated pest managment technician for the Cooperative Extensions Service, will present a class from noon to 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai Community Gardens on Main Street Loop in Kenai.

The class will offer information on weeds and barriers for the home gardener and how to reduce time weeding in gardens. For more information, call 262-5824.

Summer clubs planned

The Boys and Girls Club will sponsor a soccer camp for kids ages 6 to 18 on June 19 through 22. The club also will feature two basketball clubs Aug. 6 through 8 for fifth- through ninth-graders and Aug. 9 through 11 for seventh- through 12th-graders For more information, call the club at 283-2682.

River festival planned

The Kenai River Festival will be held from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. June 9 and noon to 6 p.m. June 10 at the City of Kenai Green Strip by the Kenai Ball Fields on Main Street Loop in Kenai.

There will be various activities for adults and children, as well as booths and a 5K run. The cost is free. For more information, call the Kenai Watershed Forum at 260-5449.

Chamber to present July 4th activities

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce will sponsor Fourth of July festivities. There will be a parade, booths, food, music and more.

Parade and booth forms are available at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce log cabin. The entry deadline is June 22.

Membership meeting planned

The United Cook Inlet Drift Association will hold its annual membership meeting from 1 to 5 p.m. June 30 at the Kenai Elks Club in Kenai. Guest speakers will be Alaska Department of Fish and Game, Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute, Fargre and Benson.
