Cleanup takes efforts of many

Posted: Wednesday, May 25, 2005

We want to thank all of the businesses, adults, parents and kids who turned out for cleanup day on May 7. It was great day seeing all the folks who make our community the great place it is out picking up our roadsides so we can leave a good impression on those who drive through.

A few families who have participated for years now have three and four generations out working to keep our community clean. Many more people who couldn't come out Saturday picked up bags and cleaned up their neighborhoods earlier. We hope you know how much you're appreciated.

The North Kenai Freestyle Wrestling Club won first prize again this year by picking up 183 bags of garbage, second prize went to Cub Scout Pack 152, and third prize to the youth group at Light House Community Church who picked up for "World Changers." Many more prizes were awarded during the open drawing.

The businesses that provided either cash or prizes were ConocoPhillips, the Kenai Lions Club, Cook Inlet Lions Club, Nikiski Community Club, Udelhoven Oil Systems, Peninsula Sanitation and Waste Management, Nikiski Chamber of Commerce, L and J Trucking, M and M Market, Vincent's Auto, Nikiski Hardware, Stay Tan, Delars, Nero's, Tree House, Bear Paw, Nikiski Nail and Beauty Supply, Kenai Spot Shop and Trustworthy Hardware.

Our sign also said "And you!" Thank you again.

Audrey Johnson, Secretary, Nikiski Community Council
