Machado joins Oilers as coach

Former Kenai Central High School standout Dennis Machado will be joining the Oilers as the pitching coach. Machado has coaching experience dating back to 1994. Coaching stints have included pitching coach for the American Legion Twins from 1994 to 1997, assistant head coach/pitching coach at East Anchorage High School from 2001 to 2005 and pitching coach of the Alaska Baseball Academy from 2004 to 2005. During his four years with East over 10 pitchers went on to the college level (three at the Division I Level), two were drafted and one is now playing professionally.

Machado played four years of collegiate baseball including Butler County Community College (Kansas), Oral Roberts University and finishing at the University of Southern Indiana in Evansville. He played four years with the Peninsula Oilers and was a member of the 1994 National Baseball Congress World Series Champions.

Machado was drafted by the Montreal Expos in the amateur draft in 1994 after a stellar high school career that included baseball, football, basketball, track and soccer. He was named the 1993 Alaska Offensive player of the year after setting the then single season state rushing record.

Dennis Machado lives in Arroyo Grande, Calif., and is the proud father of Brayden, who was born on Oct. 25, 2006.
