Musicians, vendors wanted for music festival

There are a few slots open for musicians at this year's Solstice Music Festival to be held June 21 at the Diamond M Ranch. Vendors interested in participating can call JoAnne Martin at 283-9330 for an application. There will be no admission charge and no fee for vendors. The event will begin at 4:00 pm and go until midnight. Food, arts and crafts, activities and political booths are needed. Donations to Matti's Farm are encouraged.

Run for the River registration open

Registration is open for the Kenai Watershed Forum's Run for the River 5-kilometer and 10-mile run/walk. Held June 11 in conjunction with the 2011 Kenai River Festival, this event supports watershed education on the Kenai Peninsula. Early registration is $20. Prizes will be awarded in several categories. Runner's gift is included with registration fee. Cabin tour guides needed

The Kenai Historical Society needs volunteers to train as cabin tour hosts at the Kenai Historic Cabin Park for several hours each week this summer. Opening is set for May 31, with orientation for new volunteers the week before. The cabin is open from 1 to 3 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. The society is also looking for the following donations: a wood-fired cook stove, a barrel stove with flat top, tools relating to trapping (pre-1940), tools relating to commercial fishing in the Cook Inlet (pre-1950s), a teacher's desk from the terrirtorial era (1940s), student desks, and a small dining table with 1-2 chairs. Garden club Saturday schedule changes

A Central Peninsula Garden Club Saturday workshop on graywater gardening has been canceled.

A new workshop on pumpkins has been added for 2p.m. May 28. J.D. Megchelsen will talk about pumpkins. From careful seed starting, to putting the giant pumpkin in a sling for transporting it to the State Fair in Palmer, participants will learn about what it takes to produce a competition level pumpkin for the big weigh-in. River Fest still needs volunteers

Vessel safety check planned

The Kenai Flotilla of the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary will be conducting free vessel safety checks on May 27 from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. at River and Sea Marine located at 45015 Kalifornsky Beach Road in Soldotna. For more information, call 907-776-8457.

Deadline extended for river festival booths

The Kenai Watershed Forum is accepting applications from local artists and food vendors to reserve booth space at the Kenai River Festival on June 10, 11 and 12 at Soldotna Creek Park in downtown Soldotna. Space is limited. Visit www.kenaiwatershed.org for more information and application details. Deadline for applications is June 1.

Fencing project under way

Kasilof Historical Society is looking for volunteers to help erect fencing at the mouth of the Kasilof river. This is for habitat protection and protection of the dunes. Work will start May 25 and continue until Memorial Day weekend. For more information, contact Ken Federico at 907-715-8363.

Donations needed for Kenai library

The Friends of the Kenai Community Library are collecting books for its June book sale. Book, video, DVD and puzzle donations should be brought to the Kenai Fire Department next door to the library. Early donations are preferred so they can be sorted by genre. For more information call Kari Mohn at 283-4258.
