A Nikiski man was killed Monday evening when his car crashed into a ditch near Nikiski.
Paul Neff, 38, reportedly was driving north on the Kenai Spur Highway a little after 5 p.m., when his 2004 Ford Focus left the road and entered a ditch near Mile 28, according to a press release from Alaska State Troopers. Neff was thrown from the car.
Troopers said witnesses claimed Neff was speeding, and a preliminary investigation revealed he was not wearing a seat belt.
"The car went down into a fairly deep ditch and hit a drive-way," said EMS coordinator Craig Ralston of the Nikiski Fire Department, who responded to the 911 call with troopers.
Ralston said Neff was dead at the scene.
"We found no life signs," Ralston said, adding that ejection from a vehicle greatly increases the chances of injury and death in an accident.
No other cars were involved in the accident, and Neff was alone in his vehicle. Troopers are continuing an investigation into the accident.
