The last week of the 2003-04 school year is upon us. A lot of learning has occurred this year, and the students at Grace Lutheran School are eagerly awaiting summer.
Eighth grade and preschool graduation will be at 7 p.m. tonight. Congratulations and God's blessings to the graduates: eighth-graders, Samantha Chase, Todd Burow, Aaron Ames and Jacob Pokryfki and preschoolers, Austin Hutchings, Keegan Washburn and Madison Leckwee. The students in kindergarten through eighth grade will sing two special anthems during the service. An ice cream social will follow the graduation ceremony.
Last week, the kindergartners and first-graders enjoyed a field trip to the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center, the Clarion office and the Jensen farm. Thanks to Dana for guiding us into the history of the Kenai with her fun scavenger hunt, to Doug for showing us the press room, darkroom and the big newspaper presses and to Karen for letting us get up close and personal with all the interesting animals on her farm.
While the little folks were field tripping, the second- through eighth-graders were in Nikiski competing in the Hershey Track Meet.
In Christlight, the students will conclude their study of the Old Testament by seeing how Queen Esther bravely risked her life by asking the king to spare her people when Haman had decreed that all the Jews should be killed. Students learned God also wants them to speak up for others when they are in trouble.
If you are looking for a Christ-centered, academically sound education for you child, call Mr. Leckwee at 283-9551 for more information. Grace Lutheran has a preschool for both 3- and 4-year-olds and a kindergarten through eighth-grade elementary school. It's not too early to enroll for the fall.
