ANCHORAGE (AP) -- VECO has been named Alaska's Exporter of the Year for the year 2000.
VECO, a worldwide engineering and construction company with special expertise in serving oil companies, employs about 4,500 people.
The company was honored at a banquet Thursday in Anchorage for its success in selling Alaska Services and know-how in Russia, China, Kuwait, India, Central Africa and Egypt.
Runner up in the annual Exporter of the Year competition was Williams Alaska Petroleum, which operates a refinery at North Pole. Williams exports refined petroleum products to Japan and Taiwan.
Arctic GeoScience Inc. was given an honorable mention. The company is involved in a variety of exploratory and development activities in international markets including Russia, the Netherlands and Germany.
The annual export awards are based on the company's economy, new market development and export growth.
