Kenai Alternative grads look forward to next step
Students, family and friends shared an evening of laughter and tears May 16 at Kenai Alternative High School's graduation.
The school serves a select group of students, many of whom are teen parents, have family problems or simply do not succeed in the traditional high school setting.
Staff members presented graduates with personalized awards, often making fun of individual quirks and habits.
The graduates took the place of a commencement speaker, sharing their trials, triumphs and thanks with the crowd in the more somber moments of the ceremony.
As the graduates acknowledged their struggles to complete high school, they celebrated with renewed vigor the fact they made it.
