I am not sure that I have the words to say how awesome "Nikiski" was on May 8 for Community Clean Up.
For one, the day was beautiful so I could think of several other places to be besides alongside our roads picking up other people's trash.
Our turnout was fantastic. Over 200 people pitched in to make our community neat. When you think of percentages that is roughly 5 percent of our population. There were three generations of several families out helping.
Several years ago I was talking about the community volunteer awards that the local chambers give out each year with a friend. She said that award was her least favorite because it never recognized the person who had only one hour a year to give in community service and they gave up everything else that they could be doing and gave that hour to their community making it a wonderful place to live. Nikiski is full of families who care and share their time making us better. We are a well-kept secret. We continue to work hard making Nikiski a better place for our families.
Thanks to everyone who helped, so many in so many places. Thank you to everyone who jumped into help when it was time for food and recognizing the teams and young people who worked so hard. In the end we were one big team working for one purpose "a better cleaner community."
