Open burning suspended

Posted: Thursday, May 27, 2010

Open burning has been suspended on the Kenai Peninsula as of 4:30 p.m. Wednesday due to dry conditions. Residents should check any fires they have lit in the past month to ensure that they are completely out.

Campfires and burn barrels built to approved safety standards have not been suspended, but individuals must use caution and ensure that there is no wind and adequate clearance from vegetation. Any person who lights a fire is responsible for it and may face criminal charges and be held liable for fire suppression costs if it gets away.
