Anadromous stream protection ordinance garners support

Posted: Friday, May 27, 2011

The Kenai River Watershed Foundation strongly supports Borough Anadromous Stream and Habitat Protection Ordinance 2011-12. The Foundation represents stakeholders in the watershed, and especially those in Cooper Landing and Moose Pass. It is important for the Borough to renew and expand its commitment to protect all anadromous waters and related habitats.

The overall integrity of the Kenai River is totally dependent upon maintaining natural flows from its headwaters. Upstream waters and drainages contribute the chemical, mineral, organic, solid, and thermal components that make the Kenai a World Class River. Protection of the entire Kenai River Watershed is vital to maintaining the health of the river, and its directly related local and regional economies.

We urge support of Ordinance 2011-12 at the continued public hearing on June 7.

Bob Baldwin; President, Kenai River Watershed Foundation, Inc., Cooper Landing
