KODIAK (AP) -- The Coast Guard Auxiliary in Whittier helped tow a 20-foot pleasure boat to safety from Esther Passage Monday.

The aluminum boat was on rocks and being swamped as its three occupants were on the nearby beach, said Coast Guard spokeswoman Sara Raymer.

The captain of the vessel Grey Beard made callouts to the vessel that were overheard by the Coast Guard Marine Safety Office in Valdez.

The captain of the Grey Beard advised the Coast Guard of the situation and remained on scene.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary launched its 25-foot rescue boat from Whittier and arrived about an hour later.

Auxiliary members picked up the three Anchorage residents from the beach, dewatered their boat and towed the craft to Whittier.
