Nine young women earn top honors at Skyview

Desirae Dix

Desirae Dix is the daughter of Dennis and Debbie Dix. Throughout high school she has remained enthusiastically involved with Skyview High School. She is an active member of the National Honor Society, as well as its treasurer, and also is a member of the Interact Club. Presently, she is employed at the Sonshine House Daycare. This fall she will attend Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash., majoring in business administration and minoring in psychology.

Christine Hayes


Christine Hayes - Skyview valedictorian

Christine Hayes, the daughter of Kurt and Terry Watkins, has been involved in the National Honor Society, Mock Trial, Interact Club, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, volleyball and the community during her high school career. With interests in math and science, she has chosen to pursue a career in chemical engineering. After graduation, her plans are to attend Western Baptist College in Oregon to get her bachelor of science degree and a master's degree.

Kathryn Lockwood


Kathryn Lockwood - Skyview valedictorian

Kathryn Lockwood, the daughter of Harry and Erin Lockwood, is currently the student representative on the school board, Alaska Junior Miss 2002, a National Honor Society member, a Skyview swing choir and jazz band performer, a student government officer, a Skyview sport participant, Rotary Student of the Month and a Soldotna Chamber of Commerce scholarship recipient. She also is active in Skyview and community theater. Katie will attend the College of Saint Benedict in Minnesota and focus on law and politics.

Michelle Minnette Smith


Michelle Minnette Smith - Skyivew valedictorian

Michelle Smith was born in Palmer and lived in Cooper Landing until her senior year. She is the daughter of Larry and Cindy Smith. Michelle is a member of Swing Choir, participated in swimming for two years, soccer for one year and was a delegation aide at the Republican National Convention in Philadel-phia. She likes singing, photography and creative writing.

Michelle plans to attend the University of Alaska Anchorage and major in political science and psychology, then attend law school.

Shari Isaak


Shari Isaak - Skyview valedictorian

Shari Isaak, daughter of David and Sharon Isaak, was born and raised in Soldotna. Shari is working at Prudhoe Bay this summer, and in the fall she will head to Oregon to attend Western Baptist College. During her high school career, she has been involved with National Honor Society, Drug Abuse Resistance Education, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, soccer, track and volleyball.

She hopes to obtain a bachelor's degree in architectural engineering or accounting.

Summer Engler


Summer Engler - Skyview valedictorian

Summer Engler is the daughter of Gary and Lori Engler. She enjoys doing community projects with her church youth group and was named Most Dedicated Female Runner in cross-country. She is the president of Skyview's Rotary Interact Club. She also was named the 2000 Tesoro Student of the Year and won a family trip to Hawaii. She plans to attend the University of Alaska Anchorage on a scholarship, then hopes to go to the University of Washington for medical school.

Jinnie Hanson


Jinnie Hanson- Skyview valedictorian

Jinnie Hanson is the daughter of Mark and Maile Hanson. She has been actively involved with her school these past four years. This year, she was a class officer and president of the National Honor Society, as well as a member of the Interact Club. She was lead attorney for the Mock Trial team that took second place at state. She plans to attend Pacific Lutheran University in Tacoma, Wash., and major in business administration.

Roxane Kotzin


Roxane Kotzin- Skyview valedictorian

Roxane Kotzin, daughter of Aaron Kotzin and Donna LeGerda, is an involved and active student at Skyview High School. She has participated in various activities throughout her high school years, ranging from National Honor Society to Future Problem Solvers to soccer and the varsity swim team. She plans to attend the University of Oregon where she will double major in anthropology and biology. She then hopes to attend the University of Washington School of Medicine and pursue her career goal as a doctor.

Laura Tarbox


Laura Tarbox- Skyview valedictorian

Laura Tarbox is the daughter of Kenneth and Connie Tarbox. She is the captain of the state runner-up and All-Academic volleyball team, lead attorney of the state runner-up Mock Trial team, a National Honor Society member and tutor, a board member of the Interact Club and Skyview student body vice president. She also maintains a 4.0 grade point average and was named the Skyview Masonic Outstanding Student for 2002. Laura will attend Cornell University next fall and major in urban/regional planning while participating in crew.
