Kenai Alternative students finish high school despite life's obstacles

Webster's New World Dictionary describes "alternative" as something representing or appealing to unconventional or nontraditional interests.

The 21 members of the 2002 Kenai Alternative School graduating class are a breed apart, having completed their secondary education under unconventional circumstances and in a nontraditional setting.
