Soldotna woman graduates from BYU

Shannon Christenson Milliman, a 1998 graduate of Soldotna High School, recently graduated from Brigham Young University, receiving a bachelor's degree in English. She is the daughter of Kent and Lorraine Christenson of Soldotna.

Area woman earns master's

Laurie Michele Smith, the daughter of Tim and Elyse Smith of Soldotna, graduated this week from the University of La Verne in Los Angeles with a master's degree in education. She is a 1995 Soldotna High School graduate.

Sterling man completes brokerage exams

Evan Guido has completed his series 7 and series 63 brokerage exams and now is a registered stock broker. Evan works for Scottrade in Anchorage. He is licensed to trade stocks, bonds, IRAs, mutual funds and a host of other investment services. He is a 2000 Skyview High School graduate and the son of Kim and Kevin Hyde of Sterling.

Kenai resident earns scholarship to Western

April Lofstedt of Kenai has been awarded a $2,000 two-year President's Scholarship to Western Washington University for the 2002-04 school years. Lofsted has a 3.8 grade point average at Nikiski Middle-Senior High School and plans to study pre-medicine. She is the daughter of Craig and Kimi Lofstedt of Kenai.

Area students awarded Army award

The following area high school students earned the United States Army Reserve National Scholar/Athlete Award: Josh Reilly and April Lofstedt of Nikiski; Fedosey Efmimov and Anastasia Gordeev of Nikolaevsk; John Matson and Molly Bosick of Ninilchik; Brandon Davis and Marion Glaser of Seward; and Tony Lewis and Laura Tarbox of Soldotna.
