The AmVets Post No. 4, in conjunction with the Kenai American Legion Post No. 20 and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 10046, will host a Memorial Day service at 10 a.m. at the Kenai Cemetery followed by a ceremony at 1 p.m. at Leif Hansen Memorial Park along the Kenai Spur Highway in Kenai.
An avenue of flags tribute will be displayed at the cemetery carried by an honor guard.
The service at the park will include guest speakers U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski and Kenai Police Chief Chuck Kopp; Steve Adams will play “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes and Tim Wisniewski will play Taps.
The Soldotna High School choir will open the ceremony by singing the “Star-Spangled Banner,” and the ceremony will include an update on the war in Iraq.
An honor guard will present and retire the colors and a rifle salute will be given.
Following the 1 p.m. service, open houses will be hosted at the VFW Hall in Soldotna, the AmVets Post on Kalifornsky Beach Road and the American Legion in Kenai. They are open to the public.
