Mother's Day tea a success

Posted: Friday, May 28, 2010

Spaceba bolshoi (Thank you very much) to everyone who helped make the first annual Mother's Day Russian Tea such a success. In addition to having a delightful afternoon with friends and family, your community support helped raised over $2,000 for the restoration of Kenai's only National Historic Landmark, the Russian Orthodox Church, in Old Town.

Special thanks go to Mary Katherine and William Forrest from the Enchanted Forrest Tea Shoppe for supplying the three different teas for the tea tasting and numerous door prizes; Rachel Craig, the Kenai Senior Connection, and her Kenai Senior Center staff who helped organize, set up, and take down the event; Patsy Clifford, Debbie Sonberg, and Peggy Arness for kindly loaning their treasured china; Natasha Vaissenberg and Sue Biggs for providing us with wonderful Russian music on piano and violin; Jennifer Wells for loaning her china and making homemade marshmallows for the children's hot chocolate; Mary Krull, Chris Cook, and models from Curtain Call Consignment who presented a magnificent vintage fashion show; Irma Peterson who organized the cupcake walk for the children; Father Thomas Andrew's special prayer for mothers; Matashka Taisia's cupcakes for the cupcake walk; Joanna Hollier and Laura Knackstedt for helping set up and take down; Sharaf Gray and Kim Chenault Foley from the Funky Monkey who prepared our delectable delights; Vickie Graham who baked 300 Russian tea cakes; our gracious servers Pat, Joyce, Brittney, Carol, Willa, and Georgie; Donna's Gift Cache; Pat and Laura Mullan; Marion Yapuncich; Mayor Pat Porter for all her support on this project and donating a lovely door prize; and last but not least our advertisers who helped make this a sell-out event: Merrill Sikorski, KSRM radio, KDLL radio, the Redoubt Reporter and Brielle Schaefer at the Peninsula Clarion.

With sincere thanks and appreciation from all the members of the Russian Orthodox congregation and the thousands of visitors who come to Kenai each year to tour our National Historic Landmark,

Dorothy Gray, Secretary

Holy Assumption Russian Orthodox Church, Kenai
