Soldotna opened the round-robin Houston Invitational Tournament with a 24-1 shellacking of Monroe Catholic on Thursday.
After sending just four batters to the plate in the first inning, the Stars batted through the lineup three times in the second, SoHi head coach Robb Quelland said.
"We adjusted well and they just kept hitting," he said. "There wasn't a player on the team that did not go 2-for-4. It was a hit fest."
Braden Price pitched nearly three perfect innings. He gave up no hits but hit one batter. Jake Darrow, who went 4-for-4, pitched two innings in relief. Josiah Covey also went 4-for-4 and Stan Westerman went 3-for-4. Quelland said the game gave his younger players an opportunity to gain valuable experience.
"It was a very learning experience for the SoHi baseball team," he said.
The Stars play Homer tonight at 7 p.m. and Houston on Saturday at 1 p.m.
