ANCHORAGE (AP) -- The 19th Fighter Squadron at Elmendorf Air Force Base has won national honors.

The squadron recently won the Hughes Trophy, an annual award given out by the Raytheon Corp. to the fighter squadron with the best air defense and air superiority performance during the previous year.

The squadron was graded on its performance, inspection results and participation in training exercises.

Lt. Col. Ken Wilsbach, commander of the squadron, said members were both honored and humbled by the award, given the many competitive units in the Air Force.

The 19th Fighter Squadron was in competition for the award with F-16 squadrons as well as other F-15 squadrons.
