Mariners rout Royals to complete sweep

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Paul Abbott pitched a six-hitter for his first career complete game and John Olerud went 4-for-5 as the Mariners beat the Kansas City Royals 13-3 Monday for a four-game sweep.

Seattle, which has won five straight, has baseball's best record at 37-12, including 22-5 on the road. Dan Wilson homered and had one of Seattle's six doubles.

Abbott (3-2) got his first complete game in 59 major league starts, striking out six and walking three.

Chad Durbin, (3-3) allowed six runs and eight hits in three-plus innings as Kansas City dropped to 18-32.

Tigers 12, Indians 6

DETROIT -- Dean Palmer homered and drove in a season-high five runs and Wendell Magee also hit a three-run homer as Detroit stopped a five-game losing streak.

Cleveland has lost three straight for the first time since getting swept by the Chicago White Sox from April 9-11.

Chuck Finley (4-4) was pounded for eight runs and eight hits in one-plus inning.

Rangers 6, Orioles 3

BALTIMORE -- Gabe Kapler's two-run single off Chad Paronto (1-3) broke a 2-2 tie in the eighth as Texas ended Baltimore's five-game winning.

Frank Catalanotto and Andres Galarraga hit successive solo homers for the Rangers.

J.D. Smart (1-0) pitched 1 2-3 innings of one-hit relief for his first major league win.

Angels 3, Devil Rays 1

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Troy Glaus homered and Scott Schoeneweis (4-3) overcame a shaky start to allow an unearned run and four hits in seven innings.

Anaheim added two more runs in the seventh on Adam Kennedy's sacrifice fly and Jorge Fabregas' RBI single off Rusty Meacham (1-3).

Troy Percival pitched the ninth for his 12th save.

White Sox 6, Blue Jays 3

CHICAGO -- Jon Garland (2-2) stepped in for injured David Wells and allowed one run and four hits in 6 2-3 innings as Chicago won its fifth straight following an eight-game losing.

Jose Valentin and Magglio Ordonez hit two-run homers.

Joey Hamilton (2-3), who escaped a bases loaded jam in the first without surrendering a run, lasted just 1 1-3 innings, giving up four runs and nine hits.
