KVCC begins summer interpretive program

A week of events is planned at the Kenai Visitor and Cultural Center for the start of its summer interpretive program. All interpretive programs begin at 3 p.m. and are held at the center in Kenai. Starting Monday, Ricky Gease will present "Alaska's Glacial History." On Wednesday, Debbie Harris will give a tour of the art exhibit and explain the styles and techniques used by the artists. Larry Ford will demonstrate how tools and fire were made in the past June 6 . There is no fee. For more information, call 283-1991.

Kenai Recorder's office to close for training

The Kenai Recorder's office temporarily will be closed for training Wednesday through June 6. The office will reopen at 8:30 a.m. June 9. During this closure all recording and filing will be transferred to the Anchorage Recorder's office. The Anchorage office number is (907) 269-8872. For research information or questions regarding this closure, call Carol Mcallen, recorder manager, at (907) 269-8877. It is the customer's responsibility to ensure that documents submitted for processing at the substitute location reach that office before the Kenai office reopens for business. Research will be limited during the closures, and there will be delays in processing uniform commercial code filings.

Food handlers class offered

The state of Alaska's Food Safety and Sanitation Program is holding a food handlers class from 1 to 5 p.m. June 5 at the Kenai Princess Lodge in Cooper Landing. The class is free. Homer Chamber retail committee to meet

The Homer Chamber of Commerce retail committee will meet at 8:30 a.m. June 13 in the conference room at the chamber's office. Chamber members and interested retailers are invited. Social Security rep to visit peninsula

A representative from the Social Security Administration will be at the Seward City Council Chambers from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 17; at Kenai City Hall from noon to 4 p.m. June 18; and at the Homer Senior Citizens Center from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 19. Golf tournament to benefit American Red Cross

The 12th annual American Red Cross Golf Classic is planned for July 5 at Birch Ridge Golf Course in Soldotna. For more information about volunteering, sponsoring or playing in the tournament, call 260-6647.

Clothes Closet open to public, donations

The Women's Resource and Crisis Center's Clothes Closet is open to the community from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesdays and Wednesdays, offering clothing and miscellaneous items to the public at no charge. Donations may be made from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursdays and Fridays.
