Relay for Life begins today

Central Peninsula Relay for Life will begin today at 5:30 p.m. with a survivors dinner at Skyview High School.

The opening ceremonies will take place at 6 p.m. at the Skyview track. There are many activities planned throughout the night, including the lighting of the luminarias at 11 p.m. Closing ceremonies will be held Saturday at 1:30 p.m. For more information, call 283-2334 or 260-8031.

Boy Scouts seek a few good leaders

The Boy Scouts of America is offering a basic adult leader outdoor orientation from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai River Center on Funny River Road in Soldotna.

Adults planning on doing outdoor fun with Cub Scouts need to attend the training. It will be hands-on camping skills with classroom lecture.

Registered Cub Scouts that are planning to attend the second annual Cub Scout Day Camp on June 11, 12 and 13 at the Kenai Municipal Park must have an adult at the training. For more information, call Jodi Stuart at 283-1699 before Saturday.

Volunteers needed to beautify Kenai

Volunteers are needed to help plant Kenai flowerbeds. Check-in is at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Kenai Fire Department. There will be a barbecue following at 12:30 p.m. at the fire department. For more information, call the Kenai Parks and Recreation office at 283-3692.

Garage sale fundraiser set

The Skyview High School volleyball team will host a garage sale fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Skyview.

Brain awareness walk set for Saturday

The 13th annual Brain Awareness Walk will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kenai Central High School. Registration will be held at 10:30 a.m.

As part of the National Brain Awareness Week, the Kenai Peninsula Brain Injury Support Group is sponsoring the annual walk and barbecue. Sponsor sheets may be picked up at the Independent Living Center on Kalifornsky Beach Road next to Doors and Windows.

Open house, fun fest set to entertain

Grace Lutheran will hold its annual fun fest and school open house from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Free carnival games, prizes and food are some of the planned events.

A tour of school facilities will be given. Parents may check out the school's curriculum and visit its preschool and kindergarten through eighth-grade teachers. The school is five miles from Kenai and Soldotna on Ciechanski Road, one block off Kalifornsky Beach.
