NPRSA holds Hershey Track Meet

The North Peninsula Recreation Service Area held its annual Hershey Track and Field Meet on May 15 at Nikiski Middle-High School. The meet is for those ages 9 to 14 and has six events from which to choose. The meet had just over 250 participants from Nikiski North Star Elementary, Nikiski Junior High, Cook Inlet Academy, Grace Lutheran School, Aurora Borealis Charter School and homeschoolers. First-place finishers' results are compared with others around the state, and five athletes are chosen to compete in the North American Finals held in Hershey, Pa., in August. A list of first-place finishers follow:

50-meter dash -- 9-10 boys: Zackery Tuttle, NNS, 8.18 seconds; 9-10 girls: Rylee Jackson, NNS, 8.81.

100 -- 9-10 boys: Paul Steffensen, HS, 15.59; 9-10 girls: Skylar Freeman, NNS, 17.37; 11-12 boys: Joshua Jackman, ABCS, 14.90; 11-12 girls: Avery Kornstad, NNS, 15.59; 13-14 boys: Eilery Steffensen, HS, 14.63; 13-14 girls: Savannah Freeman, NMHS, 14.93.

200 -- 9-10 boys: Nicholas Gross, NNS, 35.50; 9-10 girls: Ayla Pitt, NNS, 37.09; 11-12 boys: Timmy Smithwick, CIA, 33.62; 11-12 girls: Meagan Easley, NNS, 33.75; 13-14 boys: Christian Riddall, ABCS, 30.50; 13-14 girls: Savannah Freeman, NMHS, 33.21.

SoHi hosting volleyball camp

Soldotna High School is hosting the Stars age 14-and-under volleyball camp June 9-11 from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The camp focus is on teaching fundamental skills and having fun. The cost is $75 and participants will receive a T-shirt. The camp is limited to 30 participants.
